We would always recommend using genuine Lexus parts to get the best performance out of your engine and to ensure the longevity of your Lexus.

How do Lexus Spark Plugs work?

Spark plugs come in many different shapes, sizes and specifications, they play a pivotal role in the combustion cycle and as such are important to replace at the manufactures set interval.

There are two key functions that spark plugs carry out:

  1. Create a spark in order to ignite the air/fuel mixture in the engine cylinder
  2. Maintain their own ideal temperature to create an effective spark and therefore the most efficient burn
Lexus Spark Plugs

Lexus Spark Plugs achieve combustion by submitting an electrical current to the fuel/air mixture, as a result of this spark a chemical reaction is initiated in the engine cylinder, this sudden release of stored energy, now converted to kinetic energy, is used to push the engine’s pistons down in a set order to allow your engine to cycle. It is of utmost importance that your Lexus Spark Plugs are replaced before their condition deteriorates to avoid poor efficiency through misfires and /or poor starting and running.

Thermal Performance

In addition to this the thermal performance of a spark plug is another key factor to ensure the optimal performance of the engine. The thermal performance of a spark plug is measured by how well the electrode and tip manage to keep within their optimal temperature range, engine combustion temperature tends to sit between 800°C and 1200°C, spark plug electrodes self-clean and supply an optimal spark between 500°C and 800°C and therefore require insulation to limit the conduction of heat from the combustion chamber into the spark plug. Too hot (above 800°C) and the engine suffers from pre-ignition, resulting in melting spark plugs and potential engine damage. Too cool (below 500°C) and the spark plugs will foul causing bad fuel efficiency, poor running and potential non-start situations. Genuine Lexus Spark Plugs have been handpicked by Lexus GB for the optimal performance of your engine.
